NICK Bleasdale (pictured) will be the Labor candidate for Macarthur at the next federal election.
He won party preselection easily on Saturday, defeating his only rival, wheelchair athlete Paul Nunnari, 40votes to three.
Mr Bleasdale, of Macquarie Links, said he never underestimated Mr Nunnari's challenge and that he had plans for his campaign.
``I will address issues such as health reform, climate change, employment, economy and local jobs,'' he said.
``I will meet with the Prime Minister and senior ministers to lobby them and try to get them out here.
``I think the success of my last campaign, in the most marginal seat in the country, came down to my one-on-one interactions with people.''
Mr Bleasdale told the Advertiser he was ``humbled'' to have strong support from ALP members.
``A big key of any campaign is to not pretend to be someone you're not and I thank all the wonderful volunteers that helped me through this,'' he said.
``The Macarthur seat boundaries keep changing and this time it takes in places like Warragamba but the campaign stays the same whether it's about hospitals and roads but they are different local issues for smaller communities.''
Mr Bleasdale will be up against Liberal candidate Russell Matheson, who Mr Bleasdale said sought ALP preselection for the state seat of Wollondilly in 2006. ``He's Liberal one day, Labor the next,'' Mr Bleasdale said.
Mr Nunnari said he fully supported the rank and file decision and he would back Mr Bleasdale.
``I would still love to represent my community one day,'' he said.
