FIVE police enforcement bays have been installed on Picton Road to provide a safe area for police to do their work.
Last week Illawarra Minister David Campbell and Wollondilly MP Phil Costa announced the completion of the bays.
Mr Campbell said the $50,000 spent on the project was part of the NSW Government's $12million program to improve road safety along Picton Road.
``I'm delighted this important project is finished as it will improve safety for our police and for all road-users,'' he said.
``The new enforcement bays provide police with a safe area to carry out their important work, including catching motorists that speed, drink-drive and don't wear their seatbelt.
``Nothing drives the message home clearer than catching people in the act while they're doing the wrong thing and these enforcement bays will allow our police to do just that.''
Mr Costa said work had started on other safety improvements under the Government's $12million upgrade of Picton Road.
``This is about addressing the cause of the most common accidents on Picton Road, including head-on crashes, vehicles running off the road and crashes in wet conditions,'' he said.
More than $7million has been spent on the road since 2003.
