Celebrity vet a field day hit

28 Oct, 2009 10:45 AM
MORE than 4000 people turned up to Derks Pet and Rural Supplies in Thirlmere last weekend to meet celebrity veterinarian Harry Cooper.

Derks Pet and Rural owner Joan Derks said she was overwhelmed by how many people turned up to support the field day and meet Dr Harry.

``There was a constant flow of people all day and he didn't stop for a break or for lunch because there were so many people waiting to see him,'' she said.

``He's such a beautiful man and spoke very highly of our business and the community.''

More than $2500 was raised for Rotary and $2290 was raised for Lakesland RFS.

Mrs Derks said they also found six homes for homeless pets on the day.

``The atmosphere was fantastic and it was a huge success considering we only had nine weeks to put the day together,'' she said.

``Everyone had their questions answered and were happy and laughing, which is what it's all about.

``Words can't say enough for the people who support me and this community.

``I'd love to keep the field days going.''
