VOLUNTEERS with big hearts are busy working behind the scenes to pull off one of CareFlight's biggest ever community fund-raisers.
The Community CareFlight Day will be held on Sunday, September 14, at Tahmoor Oval.
One of the volunteers is Tony Jagicic from the Australian Air League who said he enjoyed helping to organise the day which always raised a lot of money for CareFlight.
``It's very important for Wollondilly to support CareFlight because we don't have a hospital close by,'' he said. ``They help kids and adults alike and they do a great job.''
Picton businesswoman Joan Derks has organised a field day as her contribution.
``If it wasn't for CareFlight a lot more lives would have been lost,'' she said. ``I love how everyone comes together with such community spirit.''
Bronwyn and Jason Harvey joined the organising committee because CareFlight saved Jason's life after a car accident in 2002. Mr Harvey said he wanted to give back to CareFlight to thank them.
President of Tahmoor Lions Club and registered nurse Sharon Bishop said she knew how important CareFlight was to the shire.
``It's something that we need,'' she said.
``I am local and I have three kids who play sport and drive cars so we need to support them.''
Lions member Colin Hall said the club would organise the catering for the day.
``We are looking forward to it and would like to thank Benos Family Meats and other businesses who have donated food for the day,'' he said. ``This means that we can give more money to CareFlight.''
