THIS little cutie was one of the topics for debate at Monday night's council meeting.
Cr Cassandra Twarloh's baby girl Khaylan is only four weeks old and will be the newest attendee at the monthly meetings and community forums.
On Monday, Cr Judy Hannan moved the motion that councillors should be able to breast- feed in the council chambers.
The councillors unanimously voted in favour of developing a strategy with NSW Health to promote breastfeeding in council chambers and to provide facilities to assist mothers to do so.
They also carried the motion that Cr Twarloh could bring her baby to the table that night.
Cr Hannan said she moved the motion because disallowing Cr Twarloh to breastfeed her baby within council walls was ``archaic''.
``We're [the council] supposed to represent the community,'' she said. ``That should mean 50 percent females.''
She said the council should become a ``breastfeeding-friendly place''.
``It might mean somewhere for us to go in the chambers or fridges for people who are expressing breast milk,'' Cr Hannan said.
Cr Twarloh supported the motion but accepted that breastfeeding in the middle of a meeting could be a distraction. ``She's only a newborn so I would like to have her with me if she doesn't fuss too much,'' she said.
``Breastfeeding is natural and nobody should have to be ashamed but I am happy to leave the table for 10 minutes to feed her if it's too distracting.''
Cr Hannan said juggling a newborn and work duties was a ``hard job for women''.
