MACARTHUR Club of Zonta is putting together birthing kits and they need your help.
The packages provide women with education and clean equipment when they give birth at home in remote regions of the world.
The Birthing Kit Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which organises the day. Its aim is to reduce infant and maternal mortality and morbidity.
The group came up with the idea after the United Nations estimated that 585,000 women would die during childbirth each year and 99 per cent of the deaths were in developing countries.
The packages have a plastic sheet, soap, gloves, three gauze squares, three cord ties, two umbilical clamps and a sterile scalpel blade.
Zonta clubs throughout Australia made 158,000 kits, which were distributed by health professionals.
Women interested in helping are needed at Appin House, 150 Appin Road, Appin on Saturday, August 16, 2pm-5pm.
