THE Rail Heritage Centre at Thirlmere is looking for volunteers to fill a range of different roles at the world-class railway museum.
People interested in track work, retail sales, locomotive maintenance, grounds maintenance, administration and exhibit presentations are invited to apply.
Collections manager Jennifer Edmonds said there was a position to suit every skill and interest.
``Before working with the museum, many of our volunteers didn't know anything about trains,'' she said.
``With training in their chosen area and ongoing development support, they are now among the museum's valuable and dedicated team members.''
Some positions require specialised training and a strict adherence to railway regulations and others only need common sense.
All volunteers are entitled to a concession on items from the shop and those who contribute 80 hours or more in a calendar year are entitled to a discount on their membership.
Ms Edmonds said volunteers could give as much or as little time as they liked.
``All that we ask is that you advise us as soon as you can if you find you cannot cover your rostered shift,'' she said.
``It's a fantastic experience and great fun.''
