AUSTRALIA'S future Paralympians will speed through Wollondilly on Sunday, September 14 to raise money for CareFlight.
The Community Careflight Wheelchair Race 2008 has been organised by Thirlmere resident Craig Curtis in partnership with Wheelchair Sports NSW.
Mr Curtis said the competitors would include some of the country's finest junior athletes who were trained by Gary Foley, the former coach of Paralympian Louise Savage.
``There will be $1000 prize money for first place, $500 for second, $250 for third and medallions for all participants,'' he said.
``The $10 entry fee will be donated to CareFlight and will hopefully attract a broader range of people to the event to raise more money.''
Participants will meet on the corner of Thirlmere Way and Bell Street at 10.40am to race 1.5km to Tahmoor Oval at 11.20am.
Mr Curtis said schools had also been invited to run a 1.5 kilometre relay sprint along the same route at 11am.
``Every participant will receive a medallion and the volunteers will also be recognised for their efforts.''
The wheelchair race has been sponsored by Macarthur Honda, the council's community grants scheme and private donations, but organisers are still looking for a major sponsor.
Mr Curtis said he was grateful for the support of Doug Colless Road Control, Boylans Traffic Solutions, the police, SES and RFS.
