A PROGRAM to save young lives on our roads starts in Wollondilly this month.
Picton Rotary has developed a learner-driver training program with Xstrata Coal, Wings Driving School and NRMA Safer Driving School.
There will be free driving lessons for drivers aged16 to 22 who live in the Wollondilly Shire.
NRMA Picton's Di Clarke said when drivers paid for a 90-minute lesson at a reduced cost of $60 the next lesson would be free. ``The reduced lesson cost is courtesy of Wings Driving School and NRMA Safer Driving School,'' she said.
``And the next lesson will be provided courtesy of the Rotary Club of Picton and Xstrata Coal.''
Rotary club president Robert Wynne said the club had three programs in place to reduce the number of young people killed on the roads.
``These include U Turn the Wheel, a defensive-driving course, and now the learner-driver training course,'' he said. ``We hope young people will now be able to have their first two courses with a registered training school rather than at home with their parents.''
One person has already registered. The program is limited to 100 places. The offer expires on March31 next year when organisers will review the program.
