Riding to the top against world's best

11/02/2008 11:00:00 PM
WHILE waiting for HSC results from Broughton Anglican School, Grace Ireland was squeezing in BMX race meetings into her already busy schedule.

The Mount Annan resident and Liverpool BMX Club rider enjoyed success winning the Victorian AA women's class title to help relieve the nervous wait.

Before the Victorian triumph, the 17-year-old won NSW titles to add to a bulging CV of BMX achievements.

``Since I finished school I have been doing a lot of training at the Liverpool BMX track at Hoxton Park to sharpen my skills,'' Ireland said.

``Racing in Melbourne was fun and there were more than 700 riders competing in the various classes. I also got to tour my sponsor's factory, Elite Cycle Imports, and see all the BMX bikes being made.''

Last year Ireland flew to Canada for the world championships riding against the best in the world. She has raced at three world titles and will compete in the world championships in Perth in 2009.

Ireland is also entering a series of mountain bike racing events.
