Umpire skills fine-tuned

24 Feb, 2010 12:00 AM
WOLLONDILLY netball umpire Rachel Lynn recently took part in an intensive, skills-based camp with excellent umpires at Lidcombe.

The National C Camp was conducted for 47 talented C-badge umpires.

The two-day camp for C-badged umpires included rules, drills, nutrition, fitness and motivation.

Netball NSW Umpire education officer Jan Simpson said the camp was vital for umpires.

``Umpiring isn't just about getting out on court and managing a game; the work that an umpire does off the court to further their overall understanding of what it takes to be an umpire is just as vital,'' she said.

``This is where the National C Camp comes in, talented umpires must be developed like talented athletes.''
