IT was a dream come true for Bargo netballer Ashleigh Brazill when she received word she had been chosen to play for NSW Swifts.
After progressing through the junior representative ranks to seize a place in the state team, Brazill, an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) graduate, will play for the team she has supported for many years.
``I've always followed the Swifts and it'll be great to be a part of the team now,'' she said.
``I was shocked when I was offered a place in the team.
``It's still not really sunk in yet.
``It was a difficult decision to leave the AIS team.''
Out of action for three months with a broken foot earlier in the season, Brazill has recently returned to training.
The 19-year-old will boost the ranks of the Swifts in next season's ANZ Championship.
An under-21 Australian representative, Brazill is renowned for intercepting passes and for her athletic ability.
Having learnt the basic skills as a junior, playing in the Wollondilly Netball Association competition, Brazill usually plays in the wing defence position.
She has represented NSW in the 17U and 19U age groups and played a key role in the NSW 21U team which won this year's national netball championship. Now she takes her game to the next level.
``To get on the court with the Swifts would be just amazing,'' Brazill said.
``I think by being around those girls, I'll learn so much for the experience.
``I hope to help them win the premiership next season.''
Netball NSW general manager Carolyn Campbell said Brazill's inclusion to the Swifts roster was ``just reward'' for her effort and commitment.
Campbell said Brazill was an excellent role model and an example of what could be achieved through hard work and dedication.
Brazill's next step is to start a fitness training program with her teammates in preparation for the season's start in March.
