FORMER world IBO middleweight champion Daniel Geale has been in the boxing ring with one of this year's entrants in Foxtel's new television series, The Contender.
The prize for the winner of the show, which eliminates a boxer each week, is to fight Anthony Mundine, the man who took Geale's title from him in a split decision earlier this year.
Last year Mount Annan boxer Geale won every round of his 10-round international bout against the new show's entrant, New Zealander Daniel MacKinnon last year. Geale never looked like losing although he did receive a scare in the eighth round.
He knocked down MacKinnon when the Kiwi beat the count and embarrassed Geale by catching him with a right-hander. Admitting he had ``walked into it'', Geale said he was in ``cruise mode'' for most of the fight.
``He wasn't the hardest puncher I've faced but the guy can punch.''
The Contender is screened on Fox 8 on Mondays.
