Nearly 80 golf enthusiasts hit the greens of Muirfield Golf Club, North Rocks on Friday to raise close to $7000 for the Ingham Institute cancer research programs.
Now in its third year, the charity golf day is organised by the Landscape Association of NSW & ACT and the Nursery & Garden Industry NSW & ACT.
It pays tribute to the late Mike Skegg, former chief executive of the Nursery & Garden Industry, who died of cancer in 2012.
Organiser Bob Wynyard said the Ingham Institute was selected as a beneficiary due to the specialised work that it does in cancer research.
“We wanted to donate to an organisation with a big cancer research focus to leave a legacy to Mike Skegg and help other people affected by the disease,” he said.
Ingham Institute chief operating officer Greg Kaplan said it was pleasing to see so many golfing professionals and enthusiasts teeing off for cancer research.
“Attendees on the day can rest assured that the funds raised will be driven back into our cutting-edge cancer research programs to help improve the treatment and health of thousands of Australians suffering from the deadly disease,’’ he said.
