The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has declared a total fire ban across the state this weekend.
At about 3pm today, February 10, the RFS announced all open fires would be banned across NSW on Saturday and Sunday.
The declaration has been made due to worsening weather conditions, according to the RFS.
The ban means no fires can be lit in an open area over the weekend.
According to the RFS website, total fire bans are declared because bush fires are more likely to spread and cause damage on days when the weather is very hot, dry and windy.
These are usually on very high to extreme fire days.
Under severe and very high fire conditions, the RFS provides the following advice:
- Well prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety during a fire.
- Follow your bush fire survival plan and remain vigilant
- Keep informed by listening to local radio, watching television news broadcasts and monitoring www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.
