The public is more aware of the risks associated with allergies and harmful bacteria than ever before, driving a new level of household cleaning.
But when is enough, enough in a time-scarce world?
Anna Somsaard from Anna Green Cleaning, based in New South Wales, lists her cleaning business on Oneflare, an online marketplace that connects Australians to professional services.
For those who are unsure about how often to clean their home, Ms Somsaard shares her suggestions.
After all, balance is key.
- TOWELS – Once a week.
Towels should be cleaned at least once a week as they can harbour dead skin cells and if not dried properly, bacteria and other germs can spread.
- BED SHEETS – Once a week.
Bed sheets should be cleaned once a week. It’s where people sleep, but it’s also where we sweat, drool and shed skin.
- TOILETS – Once a week.
Toilets contain human waste for obvious reasons and are recommended to be brushed with safe cleaning solution at least once a week.
- FURNITURE – Dust weekly, spot clean regularly.
Lounges and chairs can collect dust and be easily stained from food, children and pets. To ensure they last longer, clean them more often.
Leather is more durable and can be easier to clean compared to other fabrics which can absorb more dirt and dust.
- CARPETS – Twice a week.
Carpets are never totally clean as there will always be dirt, hair and dust trapped at the lowest levels of the fibre. People should consider getting professional help once a year. For people with allergies, carpet should be vacuumed about twice a week.
Whilst most daily cleaning jobs can be tackled within the home without the need for help, other larger tasks may require a professional to help alleviate some of the time and effort needed.
It’s no surprise that data from Oneflare, reveals an increase in Australians requesting household cleaning services.
It was found, over 37,000 Australians requested the services of a general cleaner through the Oneflare website, an increase of 37 per cent from the previous year.
COO of Oneflare, Ken Tabuki has seen increases across all cleaning category requests on Oneflare, which includes bond cleaning, carpet cleaning, pool cleaning and more.
“Cleaning is a task traditionally self serviced but as more people are getting comfortable with outsourcing these type of tasks, we’re able to easily connect them with the professionals they need so that they can better spend their time,” Mr Tabuki said.
