Twenty thousand locals and visitors are expected to walk the streets of Picton during the IlluminARTe Festival and it is the perfect opportunity for artists to showcase their work.
The Wollondilly Arts Group Inc will host an art exhibition and artisan market on Saturday, April 29 from noon to 9pm within Wollondilly Shire Hall.
Wollondilly Art Group Inc secretary Janet Dalton encouraged local artists to submit entries for the show.
“We hope to get new entries that show creativity – whether the art is paintings, sculptures, photography or print making,” she said.
“We are hoping for a variety of entries.”
The art exhibition will be open to visitors on Friday, April 28 from 10am and 4pm and Sunday, April 30 from 10am to 3pm.
Wollondilly Council has given the group $250 for an exhibition prize and $100 for the people’s choice prize.
Ms Dalton said IlluminARTe was the perfect opportunity for emerging or established artists to have their work on show.
“Our members will submit entries and we are encouraging others to take up the opportunity,” she said.
“The exhibition and market will also put the display space to good use.”
Ms Dalton also encouraged locals and tourists to pop into the hall to have a look and support local artists.
“We would love for locals to vote for which artwork they like the best in the people’s choice prize,” she said.
Residents can also shop at the artisans market which will include wood work items, fibre work, card making and button making.
“There will be a large variety of handmade products and it was successful last year and we hope it will be equally so this year,” Ms Dalton said.
She said the festival would be a great boost for the town and would bring joy to many.
“I am proud of what the council and shire puts on and it is great for the community to showcase the best it has to offer,” Ms Dalton said.
