Logan Drain couldn't wipe the smile off his face after nabbing 21 Juster Street, Annerley, during a tight but quick auction. "He looks pretty stoked!" one spectator noted.
"Yeah, stoked!" he replied. "It was pretty intense."
Beaming, he said the four bedroom house was the perfect place to raise a family.
"I'm pretty happy for the little kids and that they've got a pool house and somewhere nice and safe for them to live in," said Mr Drain. "We didn't like Annerley in particular, we just liked this sort of house."
"It was the right size for us."
Bidding started at $927,000 but quickly rose to $1 million with just one other bidder weighing in against Mr Drain.
He secured the home for his family with a bid of $1.05 million
The recently renovated Queenslander was a reluctant sale for owner Taryn Stephens, who despite never living in the home, still entertained thoughts of what might have been.
"I really love the house," she said. "I loved the feeling when I first walked in to buy it, because of all the traditional features it had, it had never been touched."
The Queenslander was a rental since she bought it. Ms Stephens said that while renovating, she aimed to build a perfect family home.
"I was just trying to find what I thought would be nice to live in," she said. "I was actually picturing a young family," she said. "I've got four children and we lived in a lot of different houses, so I was thinking of that and what would suit families."
Ms Stephens aimed to create a breezy and light filled home, to differ from traditionally gloomy Queenslanders.
"I've kept all the windows so you can look out of the house," she said. "I've tried to keep the louvre windows in as well."
"I think turned out pretty nice and open."
Place Coorparoo agent Jamal Naouri said non-traditional takes on classic Queensland architecture were selling well.
"If people who own a property like this and have done a renovation, they are going to attract lots of buyers," he said. "I advise people to buy something done up like this rather than go through all the renovation hurdles."
"They don't come very often, houses like this."
Mr Drain praised Ms Stephens' efforts. "I think they've done a great job," he said. "There's a few little things that we'll still do, but for the most part it's a nice product."
