How Sydney can keep its power during heatwaves
The Berejiklian government will issue warnings of potential threats to electricity supplies from next summer after its review of February's heatwave found the power sector to be vulnerable.
The initial report of its Energy Security Taskforce led by NSW Chief Scientist Mary O'Kane said the electricity industry was under strain during February 10's "hot day" when temperatures topped forecasts. Read more (SMH)
'Logical' for WestConnex link to Sydney Airport to be built last
The Sydney gateway connecting WestConnex to the city's airport and port will be one of the last pieces of the $16.8 billion project to be built because it is "logical" for it to coincide with completion of the M4-M5 motorway link, an inquiry has heard.
The so-called gateway was one of the original justifications for WestConnex but there remain few substantial details on its likely final shape years after the government committed to the controversial motorway project.
As part of a broader transport plan, the government is considering duplicating the rail line that runs from Port Botany and past the northern boundary of Sydney Airport to the city's west. Read more (SMH)
Tegan Miller hit and killed by a minibus the day after moving to Sydney
Tegan Miller had just moved to Sydney to live with her best friend and was "excited for the fun to begin", when she was hit and killed by a minibus after pulling over to change a flat tyre.
The Central Coast woman had moved to North Sydney from Woy Woy a day before she was killed at Crows Nest in the early hours of Sunday, just minutes from her new home. Read more
When Andrew reported mould to his landlord he didn't expect to be evicted
"Hideous," is how Andrew Gibson describes the half-metre of mould that has been growing on the carpet in his living room for the past year.
In his kitchen the walls were "coming alive" until the owner installed a quick fix by sanding the mould back and covering it with gyprock walls, leaving a "30mm petri dish for mould to grow". Read more
Excavation at Kingsgrove for the New M5 twin tunnels
A fourth tunnelling site for the New M5 section of the WestConnex motorway is operating at Kingsgrove.
About 150 workers a day are on the site, adjoining the M5 East motorway, where a 135 tonne roadheader was lowered into position last week.
Altogether, about 800 workers are involved in the New M5 project, with other tunnel work sites at St Peters, Arncliffe and Bexley.
Nine kilometre twin tunnels between Kingsgrove and St Peters are due to be completed by 2020 at a cost of $4.3 billion. Read more.
Families angry over police tactic of waiting for a hostage to die
The families of Lindt cafe siege victims Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson have spoken for the first time of their horror at learning that police were waiting for a hostage to die or be seriously wounded before storming the cafe in December 2014.
Angus Dawson, brother of Ms Dawson, told ABC TV's Four Corners on Monday night that "the idea that we had to wait for somebody to be killed or seriously injured before the police would act was staggering." Read more
Father wanted to name baby after Star Wars character Darth Vader, Family Court hears
Like many new parents, they disagreed on the name to give their baby.
She suggested a middle name that reflected his cultural heritage. He wanted to call their son "Vader", as in the Star Wars character Darth.
The couple eventually settled on a more conventional first name for their child. But they still ended up in the Family Court, trying to resolve the full name by which the boy would be known. Read more
Body in tent at Glenbrook campsite
A crime scene was established at a popular campsite near Glenbrook after a woman's body was discovered inside a tent on Sunday.
Emergency services arrived at Euroka campground in the national park about 11.30am.
After the woman, believed to be in her twenties, failed to leave her tent for at least two days, a fellow camper became concerned for the woman's welfare and contacted police. Read more.
Nathan Peats to make Origin debut as Blues name Boyd Cordner skipper
Peter Wallace has been ruled out of the State of Origin series opener, clearing the way for fiery Titans hooker Nathan Peats to make his NSW debut in game one.
Wallace joined an extended NSW squad in Sydney on Monday morning and had scans and extensive medical treatment on an injured groin in a bid to prove his fitness. Read more (SMH)
Dugan one of the biggest signings in Sharks club history
Shane Flanagan believes the signing of Josh Dugan is one of the biggest in Cronulla’s history.
The Sharks announced on Saturday they had secured Dugan from fierce local rivals St George Illawarra on a four-year, $3 million deal starting next season.
The current Australian Test centre and veteran of nine State of Origin appearances for NSW is likely to slot in at centre to replace Brisbane-bound Jack Bird.
Alongside star fullback Valentine Holmes, the Sharks have retained an enviable backline despite the loss of Bird. Read more.
Sydney FC marquee player Filip Holosko returns to Europe
Sydney FC have parted ways with Filip Holosko after their marquee player for the past two seasons returned to Europe on Sunday ahead of the expiration of his contract next week.
The 33-year-old Slovakian international's $1.15 million deal was not renewed after the Sky Blues signed Bobo and Milos Ninkovic as their two marquee players for the 2017/18 season.
Holosko would have had to take a significant pay cut to remain with Sydney FC. Read more (SMH)
