A South Australian woman has been charged with being a member of terrorist organisation, Islamic State.
The 22-year-old was arrested on Tuesday in the western suburbs of Adelaide after an operation run by the South Australian Joint Counter Terrorism Team.
It will be alleged the woman pledged her allegiance to the Islamic State after connecting with its members online.
”The arrest today highlights the global nature of terrorism and the importance of community vigilance,” AFP Assistant Commissioner Counter Terrorism Ian McCartney said.
“The actions today are a result of smart policing.”
SAPOL Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams reinforced the message that the woman had not been charged with “planning any attack”.
“There’s no known ongoing threat to the community of South Australia at this time,” she said.
There also is no link to the explosions in Manchester attack, the Deputy Commissioner said.
