Local cowboys and cowgirls will take over K-Ranch Arena for a fun-filled four day event next week.

Talented riders will battle it out for their chance to win $120,000 in prize money at the Naughty Nine’s event on June 22-25.

Werombi residents Aaron and Jarod Wales are ready to take on the tough competition.

The brothers compete in team roping which involves a group of riders catching a steer.

Mr Wales said they started competing in the event as children.

“It’s just awesome,” he said.

“It’s a great group of people we have a great time – it’s like a family.

“Roping is also pretty competitive too.”

Mr Wales said his team was “100 per cent” in with a chance at winning the event.

He said the Naughty Nine’s event at Mount Hunter was great for spectators.

“It’s great if you’re into horses and seeing what they have the ability to do,” he said.

“But it’s also pretty fast action and great fun.”

Spectators will see riders compete in a range of rodeo sports, including roping, barrels, steer wrestling and breakaway.

Breakaway rider Tracey McCrae said she was also looking forward to the event.

The Orangeville resident said Naughty Nine’s attracted the most competitive riders.

“I love the skill and technique and that adrenaline rush you get," she said.

“It’s also really good to compete against the really tough girls, so we’ll see how I go.”

Ms Mcrae said the event was great for families.

“You see a lot of families competing and coming out to watch,” she said.

“It has a really good family atmosphere.”

K-Ranch owner Mick Kearney said he had been thinking about creating this event for four years.

“I had the concept in my head and last year it came to life,” he said.

“The event was a huge success and this year will be bigger and better than ever.”

About 500 people are expected to attend the family-friendly event.

Children can enjoy jumping castles, face-painting and a petting zoo.

On Saturday night visitors will be treated to live performances from a variety of artists including local country musician, Tori Darke.
