Have you ever wanted to cook like Jamie Oliver?
Well, here’s your chance.
Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia’s new outreach program will launch at Stockland Willowdale, Denham Court in September.
The program was created by the celebrity chef because he believes Australians have lost the art of home cooking, which has had a negative effect on people’s health.
“Research done here in Australia proves that what we do works, so we need to reach more people and get more people cooking and taking care of their health,” he said.
“When you get local people to inspire local people, we can create sustained change.”
Jamie’s Ministry of Food teaches people how to enjoy cooking at home through two seven-week courses along with a series of themed interactive demonstrations.
The demonstration topics include Easy Lunch Time Solutions, Recipes for Busy People and How to Read Food Labels.
Research conducted by Deakin University and University of Melbourne show participants who take the course purchased and consumed more vegetables, spent less on take away foods and changed their cooking and eating behaviours.
Stockland senior development manager Jonathan Lawson said the program was not to be missed.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this positive program, bringing Jamie’s Ministry of Food to our fast-growing Willowdale community,” he said.
“We know the importance of a diverse fresh food offering and continually strive to deliver more for all residents in the area, from young families to retirees.
“We see this new initiative with Jamie’s Ministry of Food and The Good Foundation as a perfect way to encourage people to improve their cooking skills and help to create a happy, healthier community.”
After six successful years and more than 36,000 people through the outreach program, the overall goal is to reach more people in order change food related behaviours.
The launch program paves the way for this expansion, with additional locations planned after the Stockland Willowdale launch.
The existing Jamie’s Ministry of Food Wetherill Park kitchen located at Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre will continue to run the ongoing seven week home cooking program.
