Camden’s netballers turn pink and blue

This year the Camden and District Netball Association added a pop of blue to their annual Pink Day fundraiser.

Netballers of all ages donned pink outfits with a splash of blue to support the McGrath Foundation and Beyond Blue last weekend.

All 11 clubs, Benkennie, Bringelly, Camden RSL, Currans Hill, Douglas Park, Harrington Park, Mt Annan, Macarthur, Oran Park, Ruse and The Oaks, took part in the day.

Traditionally Benkennie Netball Club coordinates the event and this year was no exception.

Benkennie vice president Kylie Lowe said Camden Netball had lost members who had fallen victim to both breast cancer and mental illness in the recent past.

“This year we felt it would be beneficial to embrace both charities to acknowledge that overall good health requires you to be both physically and mentally healthy,” she said.

“The day was an enormous success.

“Players from all clubs donated cakes and covered from head to toe in pink and blue.

“We raised more than $3000 but more importantly we raised awareness for both mental health and breast cancer.”

Most players purchased and played in either blue or pink socks and many donated cakes to be sold at the cake stall.

The final total of the funds raised at the event continues to rise.
