“In the right circumstances, given the right hallucinogens, everyone can be a fairy princess.”

Stand-up comedian Lawrence Mooney has spent a lot of time thinking about the dreams and goals we set as children – and how they fail to eventuate in adulthood.

However, he hasn’t yet given up his dream of becoming a fairy princess.

The television and radio personality will go into all this and more when his latest tour rolls through Camden next month.

He said Lawrence Mooney: Like Literally was “an hour-and-a-half packed full of punching laughter”.

“It’s got very universal themes in terms of how we perceive ourselves and how reality crashes into that perception,” Mooney told the Advertiser

“We all live through that. There are particular ages through everybody’s lives when they start jettisoning dreams from childhood.

“Once you get past eight or 10 your realise that maybe you’re not going to be a fairy princess after all.”

Mooney said being in show business allowed him to keep playing with some of his more fantastical ideas.

“Fantasy can combine with reality very nicely,” he said.

“That’s part of being in showbiz too, we imagine and play and pretend to be other things – we’ve just made it into an adult pursuit.”

The premise of Mooney’s show revolves around telling the audience a variety of stories from his life and using the crowd as a sounding board for which tales should be included in his memoir.

“Last year a publishing company offered me the chance to write a memoir,” he said.

“I started to think about whether my stories matched up to my heroes’ stories.

“Everyone, particularly every man, is raised with the idea that he’s going to be a superhero or war hero or sporting hero, and we’re all waiting for our heroic moment. For me, that’s never really arrived.”

Mooney said the show would be “a bit edgy, a bit naughty and full of disgusting adult things”.
