“We’re doing this in the hope no other family will have to go through what we went through.”

Campbelltown’s Lisa and Sam Por lost their two-year-old daughter Gabriella to the little-known mitochondrial disease in 2015.

Since their tragic loss, the couple and their family have made it their mission to raise funds for the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

They’re taking part in the foundation’s Bloody Long Walk event later this month to help raise money.

“The ultimate goal is to help find a cure,” Mrs Por said. “But we also want to raise awareness.

“When Gabriella was first diagnosed we didn’t know a lot about Mito – it’s not as well-known as things like leukaemia.”

The Bloody Long Walk will be held in North Sydney on November 12.

People wishing to donate to the Pors’ fundraising efforts can visit everydayhero.com.au and search ‘Bloody Long Walk Sydney North’, and then search for ‘Lisa Por’.
