That’s why the pair of centre management staff from Narellan Town Centre are taking part in an upcoming marathon to raise awareness and funds for the condition.

Mr Lees said he and Mr Kay-Spratley recently learnt just how devastating the illness was when hanging out with a friend who’s son has diabetes.

“We quickly learned diabetes it’s a shocker,” he said. We’ve been out and he’s alright one minute and the next, bang, his sugar just drops. People need to know. This is a 24/7 condition.”

More than 17,000 people in the Macarthur area are living with diabetes, according to Diabetes Australia data.

Mr Kay-Spratley said the pair train five times a week for the Central Coast half marathon and the Wangaratta Marathon. He is encouraging everyone to donate, “no matter how big or small”, to their campaign.
