Macarthur Square centre management is thrilled its new paid parking system has freed up spots for customers, despite a few teething problems in the first days.
The Smart Park ticketless system was launched last Tuesday and uses number plate recognition software to calculate the length of time each car stays at the centre.
Stays for less than three hours are free, while a full day of parking will cost $40.
Centre manager Pedro Araujo said there were some hiccups with the launch, but team members were working hard to ensure the system goes ahead smoothly.
“We understand that some customers have experienced a few issues,” he said.
“As with any new technology, we are closely monitoring the roll-out and encourage customers to reach out to the car park ambassadors if they have any concerns.
“The Macarthur Square car park ambassadors are on hand to help customers at pay stations and roaming throughout the centre to assist with queries about validations and exit and entry.”
Mr Araujo said it was important for shoppers to remember their number plates, as those digits were effectively their parking tickets.
“Don’t forget your number plate,” he said.
“If you are unsure if you are within the three-hour free period, just stop at one of the pay machines on your way out.
“The pay machines will be able to tell you if a fee has been incurred.”
Meanwhile in Camden, Narellan Town Centre management has assured shoppers they will not be introducting paid parking.
