Pull on your boots and grab your Sherrin – the Wollondilly Redbacks want you!
The junior AFL club is seeking more players across all its divisions for the 2018 season.
Club president Tracy Jedrzejewski said the club particularly needed recruits for the under-17s boys and the three girls teams.
“We are specifically asking for under-17s boys,” she said.
“We need more players in that age group.
“But we need girls in all three age divisions – under-12s, under-15s and under-18s.”
Jedrzejewski said the under-12s and under-18s girls were launched successfully last year.
She hopes even more young girls give the game a go in the wake of the Women’s AFL launch this year.
“One of our old juniors, Ashleigh Brazill, was actually just signed to the Collingwood women’s team,” Jedrzejewski said.
“She played in mixed teams up until she was 13, but then there was no pathway for her to progress.
“It’s great now that we have more opportunities for the girls.”
Jedrzejewski said the Redbacks were a “very family-oriented” club.
She said it provided a great chance for kids to pick up leadership skills.
“It’s not just on-field skills they learn, but also off-field skills,” she said.
“We’ve also got links with the Greater Western Sydney Giants Academy and several players have now gone to the academy.
“We try to set up as many pathways for our players as we can.”
