A man has been charged after footage of a car driving on the wrong side of the road went viral on Facebook.
About 11.30am on Sunday, Facebook user Jess Green filmed a Nissan Skyline GTR travelling along Cessnock Road at Gillieston Heights, in the Hunter region.
In the footage, the car can be seen swerving to the left behind another car before crossing double white lines to overtake, forcing oncoming traffic to veer towards the verge.
The Nissan is then shown cutting back in front of traffic, before the footage ends.
"This happened today heading towards Maitland from Heddon Greta," Ms Green wrote. "Some people need to wake up!
"We are a week out from Christmas and you ??? put so many people in harms way! I hope the cops get you."
The dashcam footage was uploaded to a community Facebook page on Sunday and was viewed and shared thousands of times.
It's understood police saw the Facebook video and launched an investigation.
About an hour after the incident, police stopped a vehicle on Maitland Road in Cessnock.
The 39-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Cessnock Hospital for mandatory testing.
The man was then taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with driving in a manner dangerous, negligent driving, overtaking to the left of a vehicle, and not keeping left of a dividing line.
He was granted bail and is due to appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on January 11.
