Camden Council has chosen the area’s best Christmas light displays.
More than 50 festive displays across Camden vied for the top title – and this year two winners were chosen for the coveted Best Lit award.
The winners were Donna and Ian Moore of The Whitewater, Mount Annan and Ben Bekesi of Moyengully Avenue, Mount Annan.
Mr Bekesi said he started decorating his home six years ago.
“It started with just one set of lights when my son was about nine months old,” he said.
“It has just grown each year and seeing his face light up when he sees it makes it all worth it.”
It takes the Mount Annan resident at least two weeks to get the lights in working order.
“It used to take me longer than that but I have perfected it over time,” he said.
“I’d just like to thank my wife and kids for persevering with me while I hang them all up.”
This is the first time Mr Bekesi has won the competition after three years of entering.
“It felt pretty good to win,” he said.
“It’s a great time of year to do something and see the smiles on kids faces when they stop to look at the lights.”
The other winning entrants were:
- Best Novelty: Boush Abraham of Baldwin Close, Ellis Lane and Michael and Elizabeth Sinfield of Deep Pool Way, Mount Annan
- Best Street: The Rapids, Mount Annan
- Best Non Residential/Commercial: Miss Lushes Lashes
- Peoples’ Choice: Warren Bishop of Chain-O-Ponds, Mount Annan (2,026 Facebook likes).
Camden Mitre 10 sponsored this year’s event, providing gift cards for all category winners.
