Some of Macarthur’s most talented young performers will be donning their tutus and practicing their pliés ahead of Show Oz’s latest spectacular.

The Camden-based youth musical studio has had a stellar year with productions of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland Junior under its belt, and is continuing the good form this month with another famous performance.

Almost 30 youngsters will take to the Camden Civic Centre stage to deliver a showstopping production of classic ballet The Nutcracker.

Show Oz director Brooke Bowser said the show was going to be one for the ages.

“The Nutcracker has 28 of Macarthur's finest young ballet dancers, aged from just four to 16 years,” she said.

“All have been wonderful and it's been a pleasure to work with students from a number of Macarthur's finest dance studios.”

Bowser said the performers, who all hail from Macarthur, were a dream to direct and had been working with artistic director Nerillee Rbinson.

The kids also got a special mentoring workshop with Grasmere local Edward Smith, who is a member of the Australian Ballet.

Bowser said Show Oz’s production would be a great way for locals to enjoy the festive season.

“Why not celebrate Christmas with Macarthur’s rising stars,” she said.

The Nutcracker is perfect for all ages. Plus, unlike with traditional ballet productions this production is narrated so it is easy to follow along the story of Clara and her magical Nutcracker.”

The Christmas tale tells the story of Clara and her toy Nutcracker, which comes to life at night-time and leads an army of gingerbread soldiers and mice.

The young performers have been rehearsing for the big show for 11 weeks now and will deliver a matinee performance for the residents of Carrington Aged Care on Thursday morning.

See a performance of The Nutcracker at the Camden Civic Centre tonight, Wednesday, December 20, from 6.30pm.
