A man who was dragged unconscious from the surf by his girlfriend has died on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Emergency services were called to a boat ramp at Hat Head, east of Kempsey after a 24-year-old man collapsed while swimming shortly after 4pm on Sunday.
Members of the public began CPR until paramedics arrived, but the man, who is believed to be from Kempsey, died at the scene.
