Weeks after NSW’s Mullet Fest attracted crowds of people with ‘business up front, party in the back’ haircuts, it appears Launceston is hosting a different type of mullet celebration.
Walkers at Cataract Gorge have discovered schools of fish swarming between Kings Bridge and the gorge during the past several days.
Inland Fisheries Service section manager Chris Wisniewski said fish were schooling around the state.
He suspected gorge was hosting a large school of mullet, which was a natural barrier for the fish.
“It’s a common occurrence across the state,” Mr Wisniewski said. “You get them some years more than others.”
Although he did comment it was good-sized school.
Mr Wisniewski couldn’t confirm why they were in the area.
Spawning is a potential reason they could be at the mouth of the gorge.
