Extreme sports action coming back to Appin

Motorcross fans are revving up for the the 2017 Motul MX Nationals next weekend.

The Macarthur Motorcycle Club in Appin will host the event from 7.30am on Sunday, April 23.

More than 100 competitors will converge on the venue including a solid contingent of local and international riders.

Motul MX Nationals seriespromoter Kevin Williams said the venue was well equipped to welcome thousands of motocross fans and the track will be prepared to a world class standard.

“We always put in a lot of work when the MX Nationals heads to Appin, and I think fans and spectators will be very pleased with what they see in just over a week’s time,” he said.

“The Motul MX Nationals is a very important event for not only the club, but also for the region.

“With Appin hosting a national event of this size it keeps the venue on the radar, and provides the sport in the area with fantastic national exposure.”

Competitiors include defending MX1 champion Dean Ferris and international competitors including New Zealand’s Hamish Harwood and Russia’s Aleksandr Tonkov.

As well as the three major championship classes, Mr Williams said the Yamaha 250cc Junior support category riders would also have the opportunity to race alongside some of the worlds best.

“In addition to the Thor MX1, Motul MX2 and Pirelli MXD classes racing at Appin, we will also have the Yamaha 250cc Junior riders taking part in the event as the support category,” he said.

“The junior riders are the future of our sport, and having the class race alongside the country’s best provides a great opportunity for them to see what racing at the top level is like.

“As well as fans having the chance to see the pros in action, they will also be able to throw their support behind the young junior riders as well ensuring a full day of action packed racing.”
