‘What a wonderful bloody bit of news’: Campbelltown couple win lottery

One Campbelltown couple have half a million reasons to be happy on their wedding anniversary – they’ve won the lottery!

The couple – who wish to remain anonymous – are planning “the most beautiful wedding anniversary ever” after their shock win in the weekend’s Lotto Strike draw.

The couple were the only division one winners on Saturday, taking home a prize of $539,650.85.

The husband bought the one-game Lotto Strike QuickPick entry from The Mall Newsagency at Campbelltown Mall.

The pair were informed of their win this morning.

“Holey moley, I love you,” the man told the NSW Lotteries operator.

“Oh my god, that’s absolutely astounding, goodness gracious me.

“What a wonderful bloody bit of news that is.”

The couple are celebrating several decades of happy marriage this week.

“It will be the most beautiful wedding anniversary my wife and I have ever had,” the man said.

“My wife is sitting here with her mouth open wondering what’s going on.

“It’s been a difficult year, but I tell you what, this is the best that that could have ever happened to us.

“I look forward to seeing the money in my account.

“I’ll be spending the next 12 months looking for a beautiful present for my wife for next year’s anniversary.

“It will be a celebration of our life together.”

Mall Newsagency owner Joe Abela is also celebrating the win.

“It’s beautiful,’ he said.

“I saw we had sold a winning entry yesterday morning and I couldn’t wait to ring my wife.

“Until now, Lotto Strike was the only game I hadn’t sold a division one winning ticket for during my time as a newsagent.

“We’ve had this outlet since 2006 and we’ve now sold a Saturday Lotto, Powerball and Lotto Strike division one winning entry.

“It’s going to change the winner’s life. Good luck to them.”
