A police investigation is underway after two fires were lit at the Narellan Town Centre on Monday.

In the early hours of Monday morning, police and staff members discovered two small blazes within the space of an hour.

The fires caused minimal structural damage, but the centre’s electricity supply was affected throughout the morning.

At about 12.15am on November 6, police patrolling Queen Street noticed the electrical box outside the centre was on fire.

Fire fighters worked to extinguish the blaze, causing minor damage to the awning and down pipes.

Camden Crime Manager Detective Inspector Jayne Doherty said several items had been set on fire in a shopping trolley, which was pushed next to the electrical box.

At about 1.10am, a centre security guard informed police that a cleaner had extinguished a second small fire nearby.

The fire was lit in a large rubbish bin near the centre’s loading dock and also caused minimal damage.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the two fires, including looking at CCTV footage from Monday morning.

Ms Doherty said police were concerned by the incident.

“Little fires can build up to bigger ones,” she said.

“With strong winds, these fires can get out of control.”

Narellan Town Centre senior marketing manager Lucy Chambers said a small number of shops were left without power until about 11am on Monday.

Police are also continuing to investigate several grass fires that have been lit in the Spring Farm area in recent weeks.

Ms Doherty said the fires had not caused serious damage to property.

She said police were investigating whether there was a link between the Narellan Town Centre and Spring Farn fire incidents.

Ms Doherty said anyone who had information about these incidents should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
