The driver of a car that crashed into a classroom at Greenacre in western Sydney, killing two eight-year-old boys, is "deeply sorry", her lawyer, Nick Hanna, has said.
Maha Al-Shennag, 52, was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving after her Toyota Kluger crashed into a classroom at Banksia Road Public School where 24 students were starting their morning class on Tuesday.
She was "deeply sorry for the loss and hurt suffered by the children, the school, the families and the community", Mr Hanna posted on his firm's Facebook page.
"Her thoughts and prayers are with those affected," the post said.
It is understood that Ms Al-Shennag, who was not seriously injured, is a widowed mother-of-four.
Following the crash, the two boys were taken in a critical condition to The Children's Hospital at Westmead where they were pronounced dead.
Three girls, two aged eight and one aged nine, were also rushed to the hospital and are now in a stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.
Police said the crash was not being treated as intentional and Ms Al-Shennag was co-operating with the investigation.
It is unclear what caused the car to gather speed and crash into the classroom.
She has been granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on November 29.
Following an impromptu vigil at the school on Tuesday night, students returned to class on Wednesday morning. A number of extra counsellors were on duty.
Distraught children and parents added to the growing pile of bouquets, balloons and messages of condolence that have been laid at the school gates.
A young girl broke down in tears outside the school, accompanied by her aunt, Eman Fayed.
"When I first realised it, I was shaking," the girl told AAP. "And it's really hard."
Ms Fayed, who was one of the first relatives at the school after the crash, said the hardest part was waiting for news about the injured children.
"You think this is the safest place to send them," she said. "What can you do? You have to pray."
