Camden is not only growing outwards, it will soon be growing upwards as well.

Developer AV Jennings has earmarked a site along Lodges Road in Elderslie for apartments and townhouses.

At last night’s Camden Council meeting, councillors approved a subdivision to create four super lots sized between 1785 and 8918 metres squared and a new road at the site.

Six three-storey buildings with up to 72 apartments and three groups of detached terrace-style homes could eventually be built at the site.

AV Jennings project manager Phillip Gardner spoke about the project at last night’s meeting.

“The subject site has been a part of the Elderslie masterplan from the beginning,” he said.

“We also propose to embellish the public park at the site.

“AV Jennings hope to start construction on the lots by the middle of next year.”

Camden mayor Lara Symkowiak said the Lodges Road site had always been listed for medium-density development.

“The developer has not submitted a development application for the buildings yet,” she said.

“While [Mr Gardner] expressed AV Jennings’ intentions for the site at the meeting, there have been no official plans submitted.”

Cr Symkowiak said medium-density developments provided opportunities for housing diversity.

“Diversity of housing is needed – one in four households are single person households now,” she said.

“Medium-density development will not be the predominant type of development in this area.

“As long as they are sprinkled throughout different suburbs I am fine with that [type of development].”

Camden Council has also received plans for apartment buildings in Narellan.

Elyard Property Holdings submitted the plans for Elyard Gardens, a medium-density residential and commercial precinct on Elyard Street, behind Narellan Town Centre.
