Martin ‘The Situ-Asian’ Nguyen is the first Australian to win simultaneous world titles – and he’s gunning for a third.
The Narellan Vale mixed martial arts fighter recently took out the World Championship Light Weight title.
In August he took out the World Championship Featherweight title.
Nguyen said “words couldn’t describe” how he felt after the win against Eduard Folayang.
“[Eduard] is actually one of my good friends so it was a hard pill to swallow knowing that I would be fighting him,” he said.
“I was fighting up a weight class and he had six kilos on me.
“I had my doubts but we fought hard and trained hard in the lead up to the fight – I couldn’t discount him though because he is a tough fighter and beat some of the best to get there.”
Nguyen is only the third fighter in the world to hold simultaneous world titles.
“It’s every fighters dream to win one world title, let alone to win two so it’s a dream come true for me,” he said.
“I am gunning for a third now so I will be dropping down a weight.
“It’s a lot of strict dieting and training but I am confident that I can do it.”
Nguyen said he was enjoying the down time between fights.
“I haven’t been to the gym for a week – in the lead up to the fight I was there five to six times a week,” he said.
“I am also really enjoying eating whatever I want at the moment.
“If we get clearance for the fight we will be straight back into training.
“I have dreams and goals and it is just a matter of time before I win my third world championship.”
