David Wall has raced go karts, Toyotas, Nissans, Corvettes, Holdens and Fords.
But there is one car that stands out for him – his Porsche.
Wall said the car had special meaning to him because he won this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australian Championship in it.
“When you’re racing, your team becomes your family and the car is a big part of that,” he said.
“We had a really great year on the track and worked hard for the win.”
Wall is a well-known name in racing having driven V8 Supercars, Enduro Cup cars and more.
The Mount Annan resident said he fell in love with motorsport at 11 years old.
“I was doing soccer, swimming and karting but I always loved karting the most,” he said.
“Then I went to a swimming comp and got absolutely walloped by a guy called Ian Thorpe so that was when I really started to focus on racing.”
The father-of-three also runs an automotive business in Bringelly.
“I love everything about cars – I love fixing them, racing them and seeing what I can do to make them go faster,” Wall said.
“I enjoy the technical side as well as the practical side of racing.”
Wall said Macarthur was a great place to learn more about racing.
“I think there are a lot of well-renowned racing teams out here and some great trainers,” he said.
“Racing is a great sport and I think karting is a good starting point.
“It’s a team sport and there is a good family atmosphere in racing.”
Wall said his seven-year-old son was already showing interest in the sport.
“He’s keen to try it and I am happy for him to do whatever he wants – he’s playing soccer and other things at the moment,” he said.
