There’s no need to sit at home this summer and sweat during the sweltering heat.
There are plenty of places in Macarthur – or on the region’s doorstep – that offer a cooler alternative.
Camden Council will offer teenagers a free place to splash around as part of its Cool Off in Camden program.
The program will allow teenagers aged between 12 and 18 to swim at Mount Annan Leisure Centre or the War Memorial Pool in Camden without having to pay a cent. Teens that want to make use of the offer will have to collect an access card from Camden and Narellan libraries or council’s administration building in Oran Park.
You’ll have to be quick though as a limit of 30 places per day will apply.
For those that fancy a wave or two, Wollondilly Council will put on its free beach bus service again in January.
The bus will collect residents from nine locations throughout the shire and transport them to North Wollongong Beach.
The service will operate each Friday (except Australia Day, where it will run on Thursday, January 25).
For kids seeking a bit of a thrill, Campbelltown Council will host pool inflatable days at its three leisure centres in Macquarie Fields, Eagle Vale and Bradbury.
The pool inflatable days will see a giant, blown-up obstacle course set up in the pools.
The days will run throughout the first three weeks of January on Tuesdays (Eagle Vale), Wednesdays (Bradbury) and Thursdays (Macquarie Fields). No extra cost will be required other than the normal general admission fee to the centre.
For those wanting to cool down in a natural water hole, there is no need to look outside the Macarthur region.
There are several popular swimming holes in every council area from Simmo's Beach in Macquarie Fields, the Nepean River near Macquarie Grove Road Bridge in Camden and Douglas Park Drive, Douglas Park.
Bents Basin is another popular swimming hole. Directions and information can be found at nationalparks.nsw.gov.au.
