Mary Poppins usually stands tall and pretty in Glebe Park, but on the final day of summer, she vanished.
The community knows all too well how restless Mary is, taking a few spins a couple of times a year.
But this is the first time she has disappeared.
People were quite shocked to see Mary missing from here spot, but were even more shocked upon closer inspection.
A small piece of evidence was left behind - a note.
It read “Mary Poppins is safe in our custody. She is just taking a jolly holiday. Yours faithfully, The Nelleus Guild.
Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council president Paul McShane said he had suspicions about the Nelleus Guild.
“It looks like some sort of secret society,” he said.
“We’ve down some digging and found that the Guild seems to be connected to a Mary Poppins story about a moving statue.
“I’m not sure that they know what they’re doing though.”
Mr McShane has received reports of Mary sightings, not just here in the Highlands, but across Australia which was very reassuring.
“Well my daughter called me last night and she lives in Melbourne,” he said.
“She said she was just leaving a bar and she said ‘you wouldn’t believe it but I’ve just seen Mary Poppins fly over.’”
“I then asked how many bars she’d been to and there was dead silence and the phone hung up.”
But she’s also been seen at the beach.
"A friend called me and said she was working on her bronze tan,” Mr McShane said.
“She’s also been seen at the abbey in Mittagong.”
Mary’s jolly holiday has sent everyone into a bit of a tail-spin, and Mr McShane said he hoped she would come home soon.
“It’s all a bit sinister really,” he said.
“We’ve been treating her quite nicely I would have thought but we are going to plead with her to come back home.”
