Jonathan Békés is heading back to school.
The renowned cellist will perform a special concert at Macarthur Anglican School, where he spent four years on a musical scholarship. He will play a recital of music by Rachmaninoff, Schnittkne and Dutilleux alongside virtuoso pianist Ying Ho.
“I’ve rarely had an opportunity to play back at home, so this is very nice to do,” Békés said. “The great thing is plenty of friends and family will be there.”
Békés took up the cello at age 10 after seeing a professional play at his primary school, St Peter’s Anglican in Campbelltown.
“That’s how I got into the cello, so it would be great to inspire someone to take it up, or to practise a little bit harder,” he said.
Békés said the concert would be full of “challenging” but “beautiful” music rarely heard in Macarthur.
“I’m sure a lot of people will be blown away.”
