Campbelltonians will have a chance to see some of the state’s best rugby union players in action next Saturday, March 17.

Southern District Rugby Club, which plays in the state’s top competition, the Shute Shield, will bring seven teams to Campbelltown Showground for a hit-out before the regular season begins.

Campbelltown Harlequins – who call the showground home – will have two teams take on Southern Districts sides while the Wollondilly White Waratahs will play one game against the Sutherland Shire-based side.

Illawarra will field a colts (under 18s) representative side with the main event, a match-up between Illawarra’s senior representative side – the Illawarriors – and the Southern Districts first grade side.

Campbelltown Harlequins player Mitchell Gordon – who was named first grade player of the year in 2017 – said rugby union fans wouldn’t be disappointed by the calibre on display during the seven games.

“Southern Districts are one of the premier Shute Shield clubs and have been home to many international and Super Rugby players over the years,” he said.

“It is really exciting to have such a high profile club come to Campbelltown to showcase their skills against some of country rugby’s best in the Illawarriors.

“The day will be a great day to showcase running rugby at its best, to the Campbelltown community, so we encourage everyone to come down and enjoy the day.”

Details: First game will kick off at 12pm with the main game to begin at 5pm. Campbelltown Showground is located at the southern end of King Street, Campbelltown.
