A search to find a Victorian horsewoman lost for four days in rugged alpine country with her favourite horse has ended in joy.
Narelle Davies, 52, went on a horse trek from near her home last Saturday, but friends were concerned when she didn’t return to her Mansfield home on Monday.
An intensive search was launched for her and her horse Depict.
Victoria Police said Ms Davies and her horse were found safe and well on Wednesday morning.
“The 52-year-old woman was riding her horse last Saturday in the Howqua hills when she was reported missing. She was last seen on Saturday by fellow campers,” police said.
“Police would like to thank all members of the public who assisted with the search.”
She had planned to camp overnight at Tunnel Bend. She is a well-known endurance rider.
When she was rescued she said she was “all right”. A rescuer then said “‘How is Depict?”.
“He’s good we stuck together the last four days.”
Temperatures dipped well below zero in alpine areas in the last few days.
