Some of the most skillful young rugby union players in NSW came to Macarthur over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend to showcase their talents and test themselves against other bright prospects.
Camden Rugby Park – home of the Camden Rams Rugby Club – played host to the 2018 Under 12s State Championships. In total, 18 teams took part in the tournament including: Manly, Gordon, Illawarra, Southern Districts, ACT Brumbies, Sydney Uni and the Hunter.
Parramatta impressed in the early stages of the competition recording some impressive results including a 39-0 win against Mid North Coast and a 62-0 triumph over Southern Highlands.
The finals did little to slow down Parramatta’s momentum as the side eventually went on to win the grand final – a 33-7 victory over western Sydney rivals, Penrith.
Camden Rams treasurer Peter McBride said about 1500 people turned up each day to watch the teams play.
He also said the local economy was a big winner as many of the young players and their families stayed in Camden during the long weekend.
