Ogres and donkeys and dragons – oh my!

All of your favourite Shrek characters will take to the stage at Campbelltown Town Hall Theatre this month for a fun, family musical that’s sure to get everyone up and moving.

The Campbelltown Theatre Group’s new show – Shrek the Musical – opens this Friday and tickets are already selling fast.

Shrek will be a landmark performance for Campbelltown,” theatre group publicity officer Justin Phan said.

“Younger patrons will be inspired to be creative and hopefully join in the community spirit that propels our group every year.”

Phan said the show would be a winner for fans of the 2001 movie.

“The plot of the musical is the same as the movie, with the same characters everyone knows and loves,” he said. “However, all of the songs in the musical were created especially for the stage. Shrek sings, Fiona dances and Donkey shows some inner Barry White.”

Phan promised the stage would come alive with “lovable and hilarious characters” in a “vibrant, colourful world”.

Shrek the Musical features a cast of 25 actors, 14 musicians and more than 30 backstage crew and technicians.

The majority of all involved are from the Macarthur area.

“Campbelltown Theatre Group represents the best talent that our area has to offer, not only on stage but behind it and under it,” he said.

“Community theatre is an amazing art form when you consider the hours dedicated to a not-for-profit venture and it should be supported by the local community.”

The show runs from Friday to September 29, tickets start at $35. Details: ctgi.org.au.
