The Sydney Test might have been a sad state of affairs for fans of the Australian team, but one local had a great time.

Campbelltown-Camden Ghosts men’s first grade player – and Raby Cricket Ground apprentice curator – Nathan Baker completed a week as the substitute fieldsman for the Aussies.

Baker was on standby for the field, delivered drinks and gear and assisted in training.

Ghosts secretary Jason Ellsmore said he spotted Baker in the nets with an Australian fast bowler.

“On the morning of day two I found Nathan in the nets at the back of the Members Stand, having a hit against Australian bowler Peter Siddle,” Ellsmore said.

“I captured (on camera) the moment that the pace of Siddle shattered Nathan’s bat.

“To Siddle’s credit, he took Nathan straight back to the dressing room, pulled out a new bat from his kit and gave it to him, apologising.

“Congratulations to Nathan on being identified through his talents to fulfill the role.”
