The Cecil Hodgson, Coonamble-trained A Martin Place Pick will be well favoured for the $150,000 Western Racing Association Country Championship Qualifier at Dubbo on Sunday following an outstanding win at Parkes last Thursday.
Raced by Wally and Leonie Prout from Gilgandra, the $2.60 favourite, with Dubbo’s Greg Ryan aboard, came from near the tail of the field and finished gamely under the 61 kilograms top weight, arriving in time for a three-way photo finish with Next Level (Andrew Banks, $16) and Thermosa (Mathew Cahill, $5) in the 1400m Parkes Services Club Handicap.
A winner on both days of the Gilgandra Carnival, the Bruce Parker-trained Star Of Zizou was again well ridden by apprentice Kath Bell-Pitomac at Parkes, completing the hat trick in the Telescope Tyres & Batteries Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m).
Picking up the leaders close to home, Star Of Zizou ($13) won by a neck from Dynamite Dan (Qin Yong, $3.30 fav.) with Squared (Chelsea Ings, $15) finishing third.
Cowra trainer Andrew Molloy won the Bob Skinner Painting & Decorating Maiden Plate (800m) at Parkes with debutante Just A Flash (Bell-pitomac, $8.50).
Just A Flash began quickly from the outside barrier and after a good battle in the straight beat Call Me Trinity (Banks, $4) ahead of Magical Flame (Adrian Robinson, $5.50).
