Love dogs? Feel passionate about helping those who need a little TLC?
You could be just what Sydney Greyhound Rescue is looking for.
The Camden-based rescue organisation is desperately seeking volunteers to help look after their precious pooches.
Greyhound Rescue co-founder Peter Flann said new kennel volunteers were needed to walk, feed, clean and play with their furry friends.
"Our kennel volunteers are just the best and we thank them all," he said.
"Without them, we couldn't keep going.
"But we need some new helpers, especially on Thursdays and Fridays for both the morning shift, which is 8am-11am, and the afternoon shift, which is 2pm-5pm."
Thirlmere resident Muareen Boyle volunteers at the kennel every Tuesday morning.
"The best thing about volunteering is experiencing the beautiful nature of these dogs and how little they need to be happy," she said.
"You want to take each and every one home for a better life."
Ms Boyle did, in fact, take one of her charges home - a lovely greyhound called Morticia.
She has been fostering Morticia for about three months.
"Mort is three years old and is a marvellous companion," Ms Boyle said.
"She loves doing whatever her humans are doing and fits into our lifestyle.
"She loves playing, loves dog company, gardening and helping with the horses.
"She is very smart, willing to learn and respectful."
Mount Hunter's Julie Uljanic also met her foster hound, Moses, while volunteering at the kennel on Friday mornings.
She loves volunteering with Greyhound Rescue and has many plenty of friends there.
"Not only do I get to hang out with gorgeous hounds, but I really feel satisfied when one of our kennel kids finds a permanent home," Ms Uljanic said.
"I'd recommend being a vollie to anyone."
Greyhound Rescue welcomed over 100 dogs into their kennels last year, most of which were either adopted or fostered.
Of the greyhounds fostered out, 37 found permanent homes with new owners while 19 were adopted by their foster carers.
